Denny’s releases Hobbit-themed menu
In 1937, J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic fantasy novel The Hobbit introduced readers everywhere to Hobbits: quaint little people who live in cozy bungalows submerged in hillsides. But if we’ve learned anything about Hobbits since then, it’s that they make up for their short stature with their huge appetites. As the release of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey draws near, diner franchise Denny’s is helping fans to eat just like their favorite Middle-earth characters with the release of their new Hobbit-themed menu. On November 6, patrons can feast on 11 Tolkien-inspired dishes, such as the Hobbit Hole Breakfast, Bilbo’s Smoothie, Shire Sausage Skillet and many more Hobbit selections. Some feel that the tie-in with the fantasy franchise does not really fit with the restaurant’s typical clientele, but Denny’s VP of Marketing told Brandchannel, “The Hobbit gives us an opportunity to reach an even broader fan base beyond kids.” In an effort to spread the word, Denny’s even invited Hobbit bloggers to test the Shire feast, which also comes with collectible Hobbit trading cards.
