Hobbit fans around the world were surprised to get wind of rumors that comedian and TV host Stephen Colbert might be making an appearance in Peter Jackson‘s highly-anticipated action/adventure flick The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. In an interview with Playboy magazine, Colbert — host of The Colbert Report — said that “Peter Jackson invited me to the set last year” and added that he “flew out and watched them shoot some scenes and went to some locations.” Colbert has been a self-proclaimed Lord of the Rings enthusiast for years and has even held impromptu Lord of the Rings trivia competitions with James Franco and other self-proclaimed Tolkien fans who visited his show. When asked if he is going to make an appearance in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, a calm and composed Colbert responded that he “could be.” Unfortunately however, a Warner Bros. source has told The Hollywood Reporter that Colbert will not be appearing in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. But who knows — there are still two more films left in Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy. ~Brandon Bastaldo
