Ian McKellen was recently on The Today Show to promote The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, in which he plays Gandalf. He discussed with anchor Matt Lauer about how director Peter Jackson continues to edit each of the films up until the release date. Ian believes that the version of the newest installment of the trilogy seen at the official premiere will be just a bit different than the one seen in theaters. When Matt noted that since each of the Hobbit films were filmed simultaneously, the cast does not really know when each film begins and ends, Ian revealed, “I never understand the plot, anyway. I just do what I’m told.” The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hits theaters December 13th and stars Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman and Richard Armitage. ~Brie Davis
