Peter Jackson fueled rumors last Saturday at the Comic-Con panel discussion that The Hobbit may be turned into a trilogy. The adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien‘s book is already set to be released in two parts as The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again. After screening a 12.5 minute preview of part one of the anticipated prequel saga, Jackson was asked about rumors of a third film. He answered, “We’ve been certainly talking to the studio about some of the material we can’t film. And we’ve been asking them if we can do a bit more filming next year.” Throughout the panel, Jackson expressed his interest in shooting the material in the appendices that they were unable to include in the movies. Although The Hobbit is a novel, the studio also has the rights to 125 pages of Tolkien’s additional notes in which the Hobbit world was expanded. Jackson commented, “There isn’t really anything to report but there’s other parts of the story that we’d like to tell that we haven’t been able to tell yet.” The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released December 14. 2012. ~Devin Garabedian
