Since 1946, the British Royal Family have been attending the Royal Film Performance: a charity event where they sit with members of the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund (CTBF) to watch a specially selected film from that year. The CTBF is a charitable organization that aids U.K. industry employees whose families suffer from hardships. It has just been announced that the film to be screened at this year’s event will be none other than the first part of Sir Peter Jackson‘s Lord of the Rings prequel,  The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. In past years, the Royal Film Performance has proudly screened movies like Titanic, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and even Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back. However, this will be the first time that any of  British author J.R.R. Tolkien’s world-renowned fantasy works will be shown. The event is scheduled to take place on December 12 with an advanced screening of Jackson’s movie, which will be released in theatres two days later. Anne Bennett, president of the CTBF, is ecstatic about the screening, saying that the CTBF is “grateful for the unswerving support the Royal Family hives to our charity and the Royal Film performance.” ~Brandon Bastaldo
